Manpower is recruiting a Health and Safety Advisor on behalf of our prestigious client.

The role
The Health and Safety Professional will operate autonomously, making key decisions to ensure safe operations across the facility. This role is a vital part of the leadership team and directly connects to the Manufacturing Operation Director, ensuring high safety standards are maintained and effectively supporting critical areas of risk.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Policy Development and Implementation
- Review and develop internal health and safety policies to ensure they meet legal requirements and reflect best practices
- Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implementented
Risk Management
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, considering potential hazards and proposing measures to minimize risks.
- Outline and update safe operational procedures that take all relevant hazards into account.
Safety Training and Compliance
- Lead in-house safety training sessions for managers and employees to enhance their awareness of safety issues and risks.
- Ensure compliance with all current legislation, including keeping up to date with new laws and maintaining knowledge of all relevant Health and Safety Executive (HSE) standards
Safety Performance and Reporting
- Plan and implement practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, for promoting safety and safe working practices.
- Keep detailed records of inspection findings and produce reports suggesting improvements.
- Produce management reports, newsletters, and bulletins aimed at promoting a culture of safety.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Attend safety committee meetings to provide technical advice and report on safety performance.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations.
- Negotiate with managers, group leaders, and technicians to align production and safety considerations
Incident Analysis and Equipment Safety
- Ensure the safe installation and maintenance of equipment.
- Conduct statistical analysis of accidents and incidents, disseminating findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Audit safety performance of employees and contractors, ensuring all safety measures are effectively implemented.
Specialist Safety Advice
- Advise on a range of specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
Safety Targets and Documentation
- Set and drive achievement of targets for safety performance improvement.
- Maintain all documentation associated with safety protocols and procedures
Experience & Qualifications:
- Significant experience in health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations like CoSHH, LOLER, and HAVS.
- NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
- NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or higher qualification.
Skills/Behaviours:
- Ability to promote and implement effective safety measures.
- Strong negotiation and influence skills, capable of fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.
