JB263: Health, Safety and ESG Manager
Location: Southampton
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum
Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Health, Safety and ESG Manager on behalf of one of our clients.
You will be accountable for defining and managing an end-to-end approach to health and safety across the fleet, employees and premises along with driving ESG strategy across the business. This would include creating and managing policies and ensuring management systems are tracking progress. In addition, to ensure policies and procedures are properly communicated, fully implemented and are firmly embedded in all business practices and fully support the business culture and values.

Duties and Responsibilities for the Health, Safety and ESG Manager:
- Manage the company’s external site auditors.
- Advise on all H&S matters as appropriate.
- Responsible for the attainment of the pertinent H&S accreditations.
- Manage/stop any operation where the activity poses a serious risk to health and safety.
- Represent the company to external auditors and legal bodies including ISO.
- Ongoing coaching and advice to site employees.
- Carrying out H&S training where appropriate.
- Assisting in the implementation and management of the environmental management systems.
- Lead on monthly/quarterly meetings/management reviews in relation to H&S and updating, actioning, and circulating corrective action plans.
- Manage and resolve requests for information and queries from site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers including tender documents.
- Efficient coordination and deployment of consultants and contractors.
- Completing the program of inspections and audits to ensure compliance.
- Completing and documenting risk assessments.
- Timely production of statistics and recommendations to the senior management team including a monthly management meeting report.
- Managing of permits to work/DBS checks and authorisations for access.
- Completion of DSE audits across sites.
- Efficient inspection of all accidents, incidences of non-compliance or dangerous occurrences.
- Research current safety legislation and translate into meaningful text that can be related to our activities and distributed when required.
- Maintain a comprehensive administrative Health & Safety filing system.
- Responsible for developing and overseeing environmental, social and corporate governance policies and procedures.
- Work with all areas of the business to collate key ESG data every month and add to ESG portal in order to monitor carbon footprint.
- Support Head of ESG to ensure the company goals and objectives are being actioned.
- Attend customer meetings to present ESG updates.
- Produce monthly ESG progress report.
- Keep up to date with emerging policies, grants, and industry insights related to sustainability.
- Input into ESG strategy development and setting of KPIs and targets annually.
- Work with external ESG partners.
Skills and Qualifications for the Health, Safety and ESG Manager:
- Educated to degree level in health and safety/OSH (or equivalent), combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- NEBOSH Diploma or Level 5 NVQ.
- Extensive knowledge and working experience as a Health and Safety Manager, or OSH Manager within industry position is desirable.
- Member of IOSH highly desirable.
- Up to date knowledge and understanding of ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- Experience in the industrial cleaning machine industry would be desirable.
- Experience in an engineering/workshop environment would be desirable.
- Experience in a previous ESG role.
- Strong influencing skills at all levels of the organisation.
- A proven background to be able to work in a fast paced and dynamic business.
- Able to manage and deliver change in a multi-site organisation.
- Proven communication skills able to present effectively and provide clear reporting metrics.
- Strong business acumen with a strategic aligned approach to safety objectives.
- Excellent people skills.
- Producing and delivering high quality communications (presentations, reports and emails).
- A good understanding of sustainability and ESG, ideally with knowledge of ESG measurement and reporting.
- Experience of leading projects, including articulating direction and findings to senior stakeholders.
- A practical, ‘hands on’ approach, with the confidence to put forward your own ideas.
- A self-starter that is used to managing your own priorities with a track record in meeting deadlines.
- Confidence to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders, and to engage peers to achieve buy in to the project objectives.
