Purpose of the role
The Health & Safety Coordinator will support the Health & Safety team who advise managers, employees, volunteers and third parties across our two zoo sites, and both national and international conservation work. The role will support ZSL in providing a safe place of work, primarily through effective co-operation with colleagues and service partners, in line with ZSL policies and procedures. This role will be based on site at ZSL London zoo.
Key responsibilities:
The post holder will work closely with the Health & Safety team to primarily support:
- Operations - Animal Teams, Estates, Retail, Admissions, Service Partners, Conservation & Policy, Veterinary etc.
- Contractor Management - supporting the development and maintenance of ZSL's Approved Contractor Register, issuing Permit to Work, Contractor Inductions etc.
- Occupational Health Services - arranging health surveillance and vaccinations as required for staff
- Arranging training including First Aid, Ladders, Hand Tools, etc.
- Undertaking workplace inspections including playground equipment
- Administering ZSL's H&S Management Systems, and other H&S related activities in order to drive efficiency across the department.
About You
- Previous experience working and supporting large teams in an administrative or coordination focussed role.
- Proven experience in undertaking agenda preparation, minute taking, report preparation and similar administrative tasks.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications e.g Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Sound working knowledge and appreciation of H&S compliance, including the role played by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
- Proven capacity to excel in high-pressure environments with tight deadlines, challenging circumstances, and while consistently maintain a high level of professionalism and delivering exceptional outcomes.
- Strong attention to detail; good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise with changing situations.
