Blackburn with Darwen Borough Councils’ Health & Wellbeing Team is looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to work as a Health and Wellbeing Coach.
About us: We are committed to our ambition that the people of our Borough will stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible. To achieve that, we work in collaboration with people to assist them to improve their health, as well as forming partnerships with professionals and we work together for the community we serve. We respect and embrace the diverse Borough that we work in and strive to reduce health inequalities by making healthy lifestyles accessible to all. We also trust the individual contributions of each of our team members and are receptive to innovation. We firmly believe that people have untapped resources within them, that can be unleashed by providing high quality, non-judgemental support.
About the role: As a Health and Wellbeing Coach, no two days are the same…most days you will be delivering NHS Health Checks using point of care testing equipment (which includes finger prick blood testing). This will either be as part of a wellbeing event or planned community-based clinics. The aim of our community-based health check delivery aims to engage with individuals and communities less likely to attend GP based checks.
Other days you could be seeing people on a 121-basis coaching them though healthy lifestyle changes and if appropriate, connecting with other services and teams to ensure holistic and person centred support.
About you: Here are some of the skills, knowledge and abilities that we are looking for in our newest Health and Wellbeing Coach:
- Experience in community working (either paid or voluntary), with the ability to travel to venues across the borough to fulfil service delivery, including transportation of equipment.
- The confidence to carry out health checks (including finger prick blood testing) and provide personalised 121 coaching support than enables behaviour change.
- You need to be reliable, approachable, flexible and have excellent communication skills. The ability to speak community languages is Preferable. Occasional evening or weekend working will be required to meet the needs of the service.
- You must enjoy being part of a team; yet possess the personal management skills to work alone.
- The ability to use computers to maintain records and enter people’s personal and health data on our web-based client management systems.
- You will need to be highly organised, motivated and resilient.
