Wakefield district is rich in heritage. We know that heritage is important and relevant to everybody’s lives. In 2022, we carried out extensive engagement to develop Our Heritage, Our Stories - A Heritage Framework for Wakefield District. This framework outlines our principles, themes, and objectives for strengthening our heritage and making sure it is important to local people and communities. We are now seeking a passionate and skilled individual to lead on the implementation of the Framework through the delivery of a two-year programme supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Heritage Development Manager role is kindly supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering the 2 year programme, Our Heritage, Our Stories: Heritage Development for Wakefield district, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
- Working with heritage organisations and community led heritage groups to increase profile, improve resilience and capacity, and strengthen partnership working.
- Establishing a Heritage Steering Group to oversee the implementation of the Heritage Framework.
- Developing a more coordinated approach to heritage, across the Council and a range of partners, ensuring it connects and influences with wider agendas.
- Overseeing the delivery of a range of exciting projects to increase engagement with our heritage, particularly amongst younger audiences.
Knowledge and Experience
- Substantial knowledge of national policy for heritage
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of the role of heritage can play in achieving Council wide objectives and outcomes.
- Track record of establishing effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a local, regional and national level
- Substantial experience of leading and directing teams with the ability to inspire, motivate and obtain commitment and results from others.
- Substantial knowledge of the importance of consultation and communication with stakeholders and partners across the culture sector as well as with communities across the district
