Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom (operating under a Hybrid Working pattern 2 days in the office, 3 days can be worked from home)
Who are we looking for?
We are currently looking for a new HESA Data and Systems Officer to join our ONCAMPUS Central Operations team on a full-time, permanent basis.
The HESA Data and Systems Officer will be responsible for providing operational support to prepare and submit student data (and other) returns to the Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA) and the Office for Students (OfS). The post holder will ensure that processes and Systems are developed and operated to fulfil new and emerging data requirements including effective mechanisms for checking data, rectifying errors and preventing recurrence.
The post holder will also contribute to the development of KPI’s and reports that allow us to accurately track and monitor a number of key performance metrics in relation to staff and students. In addition the post holder will assist the Information Systems Manager in creating, amending and updating the curriculum and associated areas of the SMS. The postholder will play a key role in the maintenance, development and improvement of the relevant areas within the SMS.

Key responsibilities within this role include:
  • To manage the student data required to comply with OfS and HESA requirements and ensure returns are submitted on schedule and to the required standard.
  • To ensure that student data captured is accurate and complete by the point that the student is enrolled on our programmes, including collating, cleansing and analysing data, and making recommendations based on analysis.
  • Prepare reports to inform review, planning and decision making that supports ONCAMPUS’ commitment to improving quality.
  • To work closely with the Information Systems Manager & the Improvement Officer to ensure that accurate information is passed between functions to enable the efficient management of students when in centre.
  • Undertake data validation checks in advance of submitting returns to ensure that data is recorded in line with the external requirements of returns and validation issues are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Advise the ONCAMPUS Management team on data quality and external reporting issues, highlighting significant areas of risk, and suggest mitigation where possible.

Key background, experience and skills expected:
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent work-based experience
  • Experience of undertaking or making a significant contribution to the preparation and submission of
statutory returns
  • Knowledge of the production of HESA statistics
  • Experience of working within an admissions or student data management environment
  • Experience of CRM systems, SMS and/or customer databases
  • Experience in report development
  • Experience in the creation and updating of large datasets
  • Excellent Excel skills – from formulas to pivot tables, experience in creating automated and visual data
reporting through the use of Power BI/Excel/Tableau or equivalent
  • Strong administrative skills, with the ability to manage a busy workload, to prioritise work and meet tight deadlines
  • A high level of professionalism and excellent customer service skills and service delivery
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • A talent for presenting data in an interesting and informative way with excellent communication skills with the ability to present information accurately and concisely to colleagues at all levels of the business.
