- Carry out daily walk-around checks to make sure the vehicle is roadworthy writing out and reporting defects to the mechanical fitter as required and where able carrying out basic repairs e.g. change bulbs
- Clear (legible) handwriting and the ability to fully complete paperwork as required e.g. Duty of Care, Hazardous Waste Consignment Note, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Diesel Sheet, Defect Reports
- Following up on vehicle defects to ensure these have been carried out for the next driver or yourself
- Checking the driver calendar throughout the day to know what work is on day-to-day and throughout the week
- Assisting management in planning out work for the day, such as informing if there is a better work order, or if a vehicle is planned for work which is not suitable or is loaded/dirty
- Fueling of vehicles and fully completing relevant diesel sheet, loading pipework and other equipment ready for next job/day
- Housekeeping: ensuring cabs are cleaned out after use (litter, muck etc.), cleaning and returning equipment, tools etc. tidying on site, also locking up and returning keys
- Planning routes, and confirming with management where necessary on access
- Updating management on any delays to your work, any issues with jobs on site, reporting any accidents or incidents involving you, colleagues or others in your activities
- Managing your paperwork, and handing this in to either the main office, transport manager or the mechanical fitter
- Handing in (discs) and uploading (cards) tachograph to comply with driving laws
- Managing your time and discussing with management if you are going to be affected by your driving hours or working time directive issues
- High pressure and ultra-high-pressure jetting work to unblock drains or clean up the nearby area as part of your work e.g. spillages or cleaning works
- Reporting in after each job to management
- Reporting site maintenance issues through the site maintenance reporting process
- Confined space / tank cleaning depending on your role in the team, you may be required to enter a confined space using additional plant and equipment to clean an area using suitable and task specific personal protective equipment (PPE), breathing apparatus etc.
- Assisting fellow operatives, sub-contractors, the customer or anyone else with labour intensive roles e.g. lifting, loading, digging/shovelling etc.
- There are other parts to the job which have not been listed or included, however the successful applicant if required will be eligible for additional training to meet the needs of the role
