We are looking for a self-motivated Higher Scientist/Engineer to join the Thermophysical Properties area within the Advanced Engineering Materials group based in Teddington, which is home to some unique facilities that support UK industry. We are looking for someone who has an interest to develop a career in materials science with a special interest in thermal properties area. As a Higher Scientist / Engineer you'll be able to work independently and as part of a team. Your role will involve experimental work in the laboratory, data analysis, report writing and customer facing activities. You'll be able to solve problems in the laboratory as they arise and ensure timely delivery of research and commercial contracts for industrial customers. The successful candidate will understand operating under a quality system and have strong time management skills.

What you'll be doing:
- Undertake measurements using thermal analysis methods (thermogravimetry, differential scanning analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, thermomechanical analysis, laser flash analysis, dilatometry).
- Work independently as required, taking responsibility for set-up, calibrations, interpreting data and the repairs and maintenance of test equipment.
- Sample preparation from a wide range of materials as needed. Attention to detail is essential.
- Analyse experimental data including preparation of internal and external reports.
- Training will be provided, but you will need to have a willingness to learn and develop through self-directed learning.
- Develop standard procedures in the Thermophysical Properties area.
- Work on both short- and long-term projects for internal and external customers.
- Adhere to quality and health and safety protocols.
