We are looking for committed and enthusiastic individuals to provide high quality housing advice and innovative solutions to people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness.

You will need good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt in changing situations.

This role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness and proactively exploring housing solutions. You’ll provide general advice and manage an active caseload with responsibility for statutory legal duties and decisions in accordance with legislation (Housing Act 1996 and Homeless Reduction Act 2017).

The role is within the Housing Options Team and involves a mixture of home and office working plus work in community settlings.

Key skills and experience required:

  • Knowledge of housing legislation, especially homeless legislation, landlord and tenant law and welfare benefits and debt work.
  • Relevant advice work in statutory / voluntary sector.
  • High standards of written and oral communication.
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation.
  • Computer literate including knowledge / experience of specialist systems.

This is a challenging but a hugely important and rewarding role. We’re a supportive team and pride ourselves on the service we provide. If you think you have the skills and mindset to really make a difference in this role, we would really like to hear from you.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition, we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
