Housing Support Worker - Young People

The vacancy
We are looking for female applicants only for this role as it is an all-women’s service. The Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1 applies to this post.
What we’re looking for:
- Do you have a background working with vulnerable Young People (18 years to 21 years)?
- Do you have experience or knowledge of how to support young refugees and asylum seekers around living independently, claiming benefit, accessing education and training along with offering support around home office decisions?
- Do you have up to date knowledge of safeguarding and trauma informed principles?
- Do you have any knowledge or experience of working with Young People who may display low levels of challenging behaviour?
- Can you communicate effectively in plain and easy to understand language?
- Do you have experience of working with Young People who have challenging behaviour where you can engage, be approachable and provide constructive support?
- Can you work under pressure and meet required deadlines?
- Are you confident using IT such as MS Office (outlook, word, excel) and Teams?

Here at Peabody, we have an opportunity for a Housing Support Worker - Young People on a Permanent basis at our scheme in Newington Green, Islington/Hackney.
A bit about the role:
As a Housing Support Worker - Young People, you will be working in a team as a Support Worker to help Young People prepare to live independently.
You will undertake a case load of 18–25-year-olds, all with varying needs with a view that they move on from the scheme after 12 months.
Many of our Young People are care leavers or asylum seekers.
Some of the key results for the role include:
- Assist the young person to access benefits or even support them with any relevant applications they need to make with respect to their health care or education and training.
- When the young person is ready to move on you will work and help them to liaise with Local Housing Authorities regarding potential move on accommodation or help them look for suitable privately rented accommodation.
This role will require an Enhanced DBS check.
