Job description

Tallented are working with a local Multi-Academy Trust to recruit an HR Assistant to cover a maternity period, starting immediately until February 2025.

The HR Assistant will provide a wide range of HR support functions to assist the School in providing an efficient HR service. This role focuses on HR administration around the entire employee lifecycle.

Working closely with the HR Officer, this is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to develop their career and gain varied experience across all aspects of HR in a generalist role.

Whilst no prior experience in HR or within the educational sector is required, preferance will be given to candidates that have experience within these sectors. Candidates should also be available to commence work within the next 2-3 weeks at a maximum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with administration related to HR and payroll.
  • Manage recruitment activities across the School and provide support to the Trust as necessary.
  • Oversee and record staff absence; advising and supporting managers as necessary.
  • Prepare contractual variation letters and ensure these are issued in a timely manner.
  • Assist the HR Officer in preparing and issuing offer of employment letters and contracts.
  • Prepare the monthly payroll by processing any contractual changes and to input the monthly pay claims.
  • Obtain pre-employment references for all candidates during the recruitment process.
  • Carry out all other pre-employment checks including health clearance, referral database held by Hampshire County Council and to check for other clearances on the DfE website, retaining copies where necessary.
  • Organise DBS checks for all new staff and use the DBS update service where possible.
  • Maintain the Single Central Record with the HR Officer and Office Manager.
  • Issue pension related auto enrolment letters to staff.
  • Support recruiting managers by preparing interview structures and questions.
  • Amend staff personal details including contractual changes in iTrent and Arbor.
  • Maintaining a keen interest in employment law; keeping abreast of current changes and potential future developments that could impact on the Trust.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff and managers providing initial advice for less complexed HR issues and escalate to HR Officer as necessary.
  • Maintain a secure HR filing system and archive accurately in accordance with GDPR.
