Job description

Corporate Services

Information Asset Officer (Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry)
City Chambers, Waverley Court, Murrayburn Depot

Salary: £30,751 - £36,312
Hours: 36 per week

We're seeking someone to support the Council's Information Governance Unit and its project response team to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry as an Information Asset Officer.

What will you do?

The post will primarily search, review and redact historic and semi-current social work records to facilitate access, primarily via data protection legislation, to various audiences, including care-experienced individuals, the police, Redress and the national inquiry itself. This work will involve reading difficult material about historical Child Abuse.

You will do this by:

  • Searching and retrieving current and historical records from social work Information Assets (e.g. IT systems, unit records, management records)
  • Summarising and redacting 3rd party data from these records
  • Working in a trauma-informed manner to provide person-centred access to releasable care information

Occasionally, you will help draft responses to the national inquiry.

As part of the Records and Archives Team, you will also support the broader development and promotion of effective Information Asset management across the organisation. This work includes:

  • Responding to internal and external enquiries
  • Facilitating access to the City Archives and Records Centre
  • Supporting information governance processes and projects

What will you need to know?

We expect you to be qualified to SVQ4 level or equivalent.

You need to have experience working in a large organisation, preferably a local authority and have had to deal with requests for information - whether internal or from the public.

You need to understand broadly what a Scottish local authority does and what types of records and data it produces when doing it. Knowledge of social work functions and Information Assets is particularly useful.

Experience and knowledge of information access (e.g. subject access requests) and records management legislation and best practices are valuable, but you can pick it up if you are willing to learn.

You must also be comfortable working to tight timescales and be willing to deal with sensitive and traumatic material. You will receive trauma-informed training to help you with this.

Who will you work with?

You won't do this alone. Our 27-strong Information Governance Unit works with colleagues from across the organisation and external partners, including the Scottish Government, regulators and statutory inquiries. As a team, we ensure the Council creates, manages, shares, and disposes of its information effectively and appropriately.

On top of this, you will be part of the Council's multi-disciplinary project team that responds to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry when it issues requests for information or records. This team pulls in specialists from social work, HR, legal and internal audit.

This post is subject to a basic disclosure check.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation. Acknowledging both the trauma of the people we support as well as of the colleagues who support them, we are trauma-informed in both our processes and management.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
