We are currently offering an exciting opportunity to join Social Security Scotland's Data Protection and Information Governance branch as an Information Officer. As part of our growing and enthusiastic team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the organisation meets its statutory obligations, particularly in processing benefit applications and managing personal data.
Social Security Scotland is a new public service established by the Scottish Government to deliver a range of benefits, serving over a million clients. As an Information Officer, you will be working within the Information Rights team, a new area within the Data Protection and Information Governance branch. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in data protection and records management, and benefit from various training opportunities to expand your knowledge of data law.
You will be working within a small team that is responsible for ensuring that individual rights are upheld under various data laws. We work with legislation such as the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018 – amongst others. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and begin, or expand your knowledge on data law through various training opportunities.
The three main areas of work you will focus on will be -
Subject Access requests – this is the largest and newest part of our workload! It is an exciting time to join and help to design processes in this space. A normal case will consist of triaging before responding by gathering information across the Agency using our systems and key contacts to fulfil Article 15 of the UK GDPR.
Freedom of Information requests – supporting case handlers and other stakeholders, including the executive team, throughout the Agency by providing key advice on what information to release by applying your expert knowledge.
Disclosures requests – review and respond to requests from law enforcement agencies to ensure information is shared lawfully with them to support their functions.
You will manage a diverse caseload of the above, analysing complex information on a daily basis – being able to pay attention to detail is key! You should also be a people person and will have rare access to a wide range of stakeholders dealing with everyone in the organisation from clients to senior management as well as external stakeholders like Police Scotland.
If you are detail-oriented and thrive in a role that involves stakeholder engagement and continuous learning, we encourage you to apply. Join us at Social Security Scotland and be a part of our dedicated team committed to upholding individual rights and ensuring compliance with data laws.
