Working Hours: 35 Hours per week

Contract Type: Full-Time, Fixed-Term for 12 months (x2)

Additional Payments: Essential Car User Allowance

Essential Car Documentation - This post is a designated Essential Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive the Essential Car User Allowance.

Driving Licence – The successful candidate should hold a full clean driving licence as you will be required to drive a vehicle adhering to council regulations.

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. We have a policy on the Employment of Ex-Offenders and it is available upon request.

 

Manchester City Council's Inspection Team complete inspections on properties that are on the Dispersed scheme framework. The team are also required to complete inspections on Hotels, Manchester City Councils Housing Solutions Service use to accommodate families and single applicants.

Inspection Officers are responsible for completing inspections in void and occupied properties, ensuring that all repairs are completed within the time frame allocated dependent of the category of repair. The role holder will work collaboratively with partner agencies and stakeholders to ensure that all properties meet the standards required.

All inspections are carried out to confirm that all the properties meet the requirements of the housing health and safety rating system,(HHSRS) standards. This is to ensure that we are placing families into suitable and safe properties and that any identified risks or hazards are addressed prior to the family being placed in the accommodation. If issues are identified during the inspection the landlord will be sent a schedule of work to complete.

Full training will be provided.

Homeless people and applicants may present with complex issues and may be vulnerable. The role of Inspection Officer can be challenging and demanding. The team works closely with other services to ensure the best outcomes for the client group.

Request

  • An understanding of the causes and effects of homelessness, and the problems faced by homeless people
  • Ability to work jointly and co-operatively with support workers, service users and other agencies in order to address occupancy issues and help plan support provision.
  • Experience of working with homeless people or working with other vulnerable groups or working in a residential setting.
  • An accountable and responsible team member able to organise, prioritise, take the initiative, work unsupervised and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, explain and implement various policies, initiatives and legislation.
  • Excellent record keeping and communication skills, using a variety of resources as appropriate to the recipient.
  • Ability to collate information and data into reports to assist the team’s performance management.
  • Basic Information Technology skills. A basic standard of numeracy, consistent with the ability to calculate rent account balances for example.
  • Willingness to comply with City Council policies, including Equal Opportunities Policy, Dignity at Work Policy and No Smoking Policy.
  • Must comply with Manchester City Council’s service standards including the Staff Appearance standard and promote customer service or quality initiatives
