  • Benefits of working at The University of Manchester

The role

An opening has arisen for an Integration Analyst to join the expanding Integration Delivery Team in IT Services that is establishing an Integration Centre of Excellence (ICOE).

The team is responsible for the application development and application maintenance of our core integration technologies – primarily SSIS and webMethods. The integration team is responsible for over 800 integration jobs maintaining data links between our core, internal and external systems. The University will be implementing a new integration/middleware environment by mid-2024.

The role involves working with business users and IT colleagues to define integration requirements. Primarily, this will be defining mappings and use cases for new integrations and documenting the functional/non-functional requirements, technology choice, patterns and error handling. Although not a pure developer role, understanding of a range of integration approaches and technologies is essential as well as a good knowledge of SQL and databases.

Our team supports a large number of batch and real-time interfaces driven from our webMethods, SSIS & Calopus (legacy ETL application) tools. These include connecting our systems via Web Service, SQL, API and file-based integrations. There would be a new integration platform by mid-2024 for which training upskilling will be required once technology is finalized. You will be a key person working in Integration “Centre of Excellence” – covering architectural principles, systems, process flow, governance and BAU service design standards.

Integration is core to most projects IT Services undertake at the university, and assignment to a range of ongoing projects will form a part of the role. The work will also include providing day-to-day support and development to our existing suite of integrations.

Specific role requirements

Essential:

  • Experience of successfully gathering requirements in complex integrations

  • A track record of producing design/build documentation in the integration space.

  • Extensive experience of producing Mapping Specifications

  • Strong SQL skills around Oracle and MS SQL

  • An understanding of a broad range of integration approaches and technologies.

  • Experience with a data integration ETL Tool (preferably SSIS, but knowledge of alternative products would also be considered)

  • Experience with an application integration tool such as webMethods or MuleSoft or Boomi or Azure Integration Services

  • Experience of calling and testing APIs using tools such as Postman API or SOAP UI

  • A knowledge of diagramming techniques e.g. UML.

  • Data modelling experience

Desirable:

  • Experience using Azure DevOps pipeline

  • Experience with swagger or other rest definition tools

  • Experience providing day-to-day support of complex integrations across multiple technologies

  • Experience using source control, e.g. Bitbucket/Git/SVN

  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence

  • Experience in business analysis and how to document current processes (including flow charting)

When addressing the person specification criteria in your application for this role, please make reference to the specific role requirements above.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
