We are delightd to advise that Inter-Service Transfers for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) for Junior Officer Opportunities are now open again.

Interest is invited from Wholetime and On Call Crew Commander and Watch Commanders and has been extended to invite interest from those in development and competent

Both opportunties will lead and support people to resolve all types of operational incidents swiftly and safely. This includes planning to meet the needs of the incident, implementing action to meet planned objectives, closing down the operational phase of incidents and debriefing people following incidents.

The role of Crew Commander continues to be a staple and integral role in our organisation. Working seemlessly with Watch Commander and providing suport in the management and administration of the watch or team and in the absence of the Watch Manager, deputise on their behalf.

The role of the Watch Commander is no less vital in the delviery of sttaion targets and borough plans. Providing eadership, management and development to support the team providing clear direction and expectations in order that they are able to perform competently in their roles against their role profiles. 

Both the Crew and Watch Commander continue to be key in the delivery of our service objectives.

Salary is in line with NJC Pay Scales and attract a Surrey Allowance, currently £1575 per annum

The Service are seeking to create a pool of candidtes ahead of future vacancies that may arise. 

All candidates must be accepting and willing to servce from any station across the county of Surrey. 

The course will be held at Wray Park Training Centre, Reigate and will be for 5* weeks running Monday - Friday. 

*The course may be extended to meet service need

This opportunity will mean that those that are successful and invited on to a course will be placed at any location across the County of Surrey.

We are proud to operate a multitude of shift patterns across our Wholetime Fire Stations which supports our Making Surrey Safer Plan 2020-2024 Making Surrey Safer - Our Plan for 2020 - 2024 - Surrey County Council (surreycc.gov.uk)

  • Traditional 224 (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) - 9am – 6pm / 6pm – 9am
  • Hybrid (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) 7am – 7pm / 7pm-7am – every third working pattern, you will be expected to work 4 days, this means no night cover 7am -7pm
  • Day Crewed – 7am – 7pm (no night cover needed) – this shift pattern operates with every other weekend off.

 Stage 1 Interviews and assessments to take place

 Stage 2 Fitness assessment (Bleep test)

Appointment subject to comeptency being confirmed through a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) as appropriate

Prior to offer of employment candidates will be asked to undertake a full medical examination and reaching the required fitness standards

A Enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) will be required for this role and social media vetting checks will be undertaken
