Every person fleeing persecution should be able to access safe and legal routes to sanctuary but today millions of people fleeing conflict are trapped in harm’s way with no safe and legal way out. This charity was founded in response to the refugee crisis in Europe. We comprise of 34 members of staff based in the UK, France, and Greece, supporting refugees to access safe and legal routes to asylum across Europe. To date, thousands of individuals have travelled through routes to safety that the organisation has opened.
Interim Chief Executive Officer
UK based
Salary £73-78,000 per annum + benefits
At this critical time, this charity is seeking a new Interim Chief Executive Officer who is truly committed to our mission; to open up safe and legal routes to protection through advocacy, community organising and legal work. We also support people’s first steps to rebuilding their lives in the UK. This is a critical year for the refugee sector, with recent UK legislation introducing profound and highly controversial change for refugees seeking asylum within the UK and with a general election due. You will lead a talented Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ensuring effective coordination and alignment of their organisational efforts. Reporting to the Chair of Trustees and managing the SLT, the interim CEO will lead the organisation as it executes its operational plan for 2024.
In this context, the interim CEO will be asked to:
- maintain our focus on fighting for refugee rights and for more humane, smarter solutions to the desperate plight of so many people fleeing war and persecution;
- ensure that we remain on track to deliver on our ambitious development and investment plan for 2024;
- review our internal organisation, structure and governance;
- enhance the fundamentals of people management and of collaborative leadership across the organisation, with a specific focus on staff leadership.
The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience within the charity sector and a track record of organisational development and change management. Experience working on policy and legal issues or use of the law to advance strategic policy objectives will also be required, as well as personal presence, persuasiveness, and gravitas to act as this organisation’s ambassador. The charity values collaborative and shared leadership and the interim CEO will continue to foster this approach, working closely with the new Chair and Board, as well as the international Leadership Team and our young leaders and Experts by Experience, who all play a vital role in shaping our organisation.
We value equality and diversity in our organisation and are striving to build a workforce reflective of the communities we work with. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability. People with refugee or asylum-seeking backgrounds are experts by experience and are particularly encouraged to apply.
