Interim Finance Project Manager - Local Government
Location: South East
Rate: £500-£600 per day Outside IR35
Remote Work: Primarily remote, with occasional travel for in-person workshops.
Purpose of the Role:
Spearheading finance for a project within a local authority in the Finance & Resources directorate. The project aims to identify areas for development and instil best practices, enhancing overall financial efficiency. You will play a pivotal role in reviewing processes, interactions with service partners, and streamlining operations across key workstreams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Journals: Develop best practice guidance for journal postings.
- Reconciliations: Ensure timely and controlled reconciliations meet objectives.
- System Administration: Identify efficiency improvements in general ledger processes, maintenance, and align the Chart of Accounts for optimal reporting.
- Income: Implement robust controls for major income streams, including debt monitoring and write-offs.
- Payments: Review systems, processes, and controls for various payment mechanisms, creating best practice guidelines.
- Finance Performance & Assurance: Generate tools/reports ensuring effective operation of key controls, processes, and meeting major deadlines.
Candidate Profile:
- The ideal candidate is an experienced finance professional who has project managed and delivered Finance Projects and has a proven track record in driving efficiencies within Local Government.
Key qualifications and attributes include:
- Experience in managing projects and delivering results within set timeframes within Local Government.
- Work collaboratively with the Finance & Resources directorate and wider organisation to deliver enhanced solutions.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and hands on experience
- Ability to work autonomously, driving project progress across the six workstreams.
- Strong skills in engaging with stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Audit Experience is desirable, but not essential.
- Prince 2 or equivalent would be advantageous
