Job description

This position requires an Interim Head of People Operations to lead the Human Resources Department in our public sector organisation. The successful candidate will facilitate a positive work environment while driving strategic HR initiatives and providing a trusted professional advisory service to managers.

Description

You will work with the People Director to develop the people strategy and business plan objectives. You will lead on the development of operational strategies, plans and policies, ensuring that internal delivery is efficient.

You will also ensure effective development and governance of pay, pensions, job evaluation/grading, Total Reward and terms and conditions of employment. You will identify ways to continuously improve their Reward strategy effectiveness, through analysis, benchmarking and reporting.

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of a cost effective and efficient end to end recruitment process and advising on and implementing attraction and selection plans for the recruitment of critical roles and planned campaigns. Lead and manage the HR team to deliver a comprehensive HR service to the business.

  • Implement HR strategies to support the overall business goals.
  • Oversee talent management, succession planning, and workforce strategy.
  • Manage organisational change initiatives.
  • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable HR requirements.
  • Lead on organisational development initiatives and change management projects.
  • Ensure all HR operations align with the company's policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance on all aspects of employment law and HR best practice.

Profile

A successful Interim Head of People Operations should have:

Significant generalist experience and will be CIPD qualified.

You will have experience of developing reward strategies and people policies as well as experience of collective bargaining and negotiation.

You will have experience of leading a team and its service delivery through change, including process and system redesign to enable improved service delivery.

Experience of managing payroll, contract and pension related services.

Knowledge and experience of managing budgets and finance.

You will have up to date knowledge of employment legislation and potential future developments.

You will be able to think strategically, with strong planning and analysis skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to support the management of change.

You will have excellent relationship management, influencing, facilitation and presentation skills.

You will have the presence and credibility to work with the Executive Team and senior colleagues.

  • A proven track record of delivering HR strategies in line with organisational objectives.
  • Experience leading a HR team in the public sector.
  • Proficiency in managing organisational development initiatives and change management projects.
  • Expert knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
