We have up to ten Intern places available across our Finance teams with roles covering the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO); Business Process and Finance Transformation; Executive Reward; Finance Business Partnering; Procurement; Internal Audit; and Treasury. You’ll also have direct access to a senior member of the team, as you’ll be mentored to help you make the most of the 10-week program. During your internship, you will gain valuable hands-on experience to build your CV to stand out with future employers, such as Pearson. You may apply to one or more of these roles.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and highly organised individual to support our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Joining the office of the CFO means diving into the exciting world of finance with a group of passionate professionals ready to tackle any challenges. The CFO's office is the financial backbone of Pearson, responsible for managing financial strategy, forecasting, and ensuring the financial health of the company. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in strategic planning, financial management and executive support within a fast-paced corporate environment. The Chief of Staff Intern will work closely with the CFO on a variety of projects and initiatives, working hand-in-glove with the CFO's Executive Assistant to prioritise emails, manage the CFO's calendar and travel arrangements as well as providing critical and day to day support to ensure deadlines are met.

Activities and responsibilities include:

  • Assist the CFO in managing daily operations and strategic initiatives, including financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Conduct research and analysis on key business issues, market trends, and competitive landscapes to support decision-making processes.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and briefing materials for internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership and board members.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings, workshops, and events attended by the CFO, ensuring seamless execution and follow-up on action items.
  • Serve as a liaison between the CFO and other departments within the organisation, fostering collaboration and communication across teams.
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by the CFO, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information and matters pertaining to the CFO's office.

Key requirements

  • Second or final year student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and critically.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications.
  • Previous internship or coursework in finance, consulting, or executive support is preferred but not required.

This is a 10-week internship programme, commencing Monday 3 June 2024 . You will be paid for the duration of your internship at a pro-rata salary of £25,642.

Submission deadline Monday 8 April 2024, or once enough candidates have applied . Assessment centre Friday 19 April 2024 in our London office (80 Strand), followed by final interviews in the week commencing 22 April.
