About the Programme
The programme offers a professionally paid placement of 6 months, from May to November 2024
There will be a strong likelihood of a permanent role at the end of the programme
To support your transition back into the workplace, you will receive an internal mentor and a buddy for your day-to-day questions
You will benefit from Career Returners' Coaching Programme throughout your time on the programme
As part of the cross-company programme, you will have a ready-made peer support group of other returners re-entering the insurance sector
We are open to flexible working arrangements
The opportunity:
The Internal Audit function is integral to ensuring the overall integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of Markel's operations. Through independent assessments, recommendations, and assurance activity, they contribute to our ability to manage risks effectively and achieve our business goals.
What you'll be doing:
Plan and organise activities to complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner with minimal oversight
Assist in planning the audit scope, preparing the audit program, and settling appropriate auditing procedures
Identify issues and root causes and propose solutions to audit management and stakeholders
Prepare and organise work papers, document conclusions, and prepare formal audit reports in accordance with the established methodology
Work collaboratively within the Audit department, look to build and foster internal customer relationships
Provide input and suggest improvements to audit department internal processes
Perform basic Excel data analysis techniques
Our must haves:
Previous experience in internal audit, compliance assurance, or risk assurance within insurance, financial or professional services
ACCA or equivalent, Internal Audit or Risk Certifications preferred (UK), full, part qualified or working towards this
Confidence to take ownership of small to medium-sized projects
Excel skills including pivot tables, charts, or other data analysis tools would be beneficial
You will be:
On a career break - for any reason - of at least 18 months (any PTA, school governor work, volunteering, or similar is acceptable)
Eligible to work in the UK and satisfy any regulatory requirements for the role if applicable
