Mencap has an excellent opportunity to join our small, but very busy, Internal Communications team as an Internal Communication Officer. The role is a full time (37.5 hrs per week) fixed term contract for 7 months. Location for this role is flexible. Some of the team are based in Mencap’s head office in London, and others work remotely and from home.
As an Internal Communication Officer you will need to be highly organised and able to juggle a number of priorities and projects at the same time and you will also need to be an excellent fit with Mencap’s core values: Kind, Positive, Passionate, Inclusive and Brave.
The Internal Communications Officer will lead on the production of several of Mencap’s internal comms channels, including our staff e-newsletter, intranet news and our manager and leader communications. They will take the lead on gathering and sharing relevant, interesting and engaging content from across the organisation.

Do you have the skills to be our Internal Communication Officer?
- You will have a passion or strong interest in Internal Communications and engaging employees through a time of organisational transformation.
- Ability to manage a successful communication project from start to finish.
- Excellent editing skills and strong attention to detail.
- Understanding enterprise social networks (Yammer desirable)
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to engage with and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Creative, innovative thinker.
- Experience of email marketing, and editing intranet or web content.
- Photo and video editing skills desirable.
- You will have an interest in and a desire to know more about Mencap, learning disability and an understanding of accessible communication.
