THE ROLE
Reporting to the UK Senior Inventory Accountant and working with the wider Finance team, the purpose of the role is to oversee and control the inventory movements across the UK & European businesses and ensuring that inventory records are accurate and reported periodically.
Inventory is the most critical asset of apparel retail businesses and therefore the inventory team is at the heart of the business. The role essentially divides between:
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the physical stock in both stores and the warehouse
  • Ensuring that the physical stock is valued in accordance with Ted policies and that provisions are appropriately carried to cover risk areas.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process discrepancies, manual stock adjustments and movements in AX on a daily basis
  • Root cause, mitigate, and report issues related to store inventory movements and adjustments
  • Support and track exit plan postings between retail stores and warehouses
  • Report any issues regarding to polling of sales/returns or missing adjustments to IT
  • Importing and updating Stocktake data into AX and preparing detail variance reports for Senior Retail Team
  • Monitor store stock deliveries and returns
  • Communicating, answering, and offering support to any stock related queries from stores
  • Monitoring of closed locations - monthly checks and running of counting journals
  • Liaising with third party contractor regarding scheduling/cancellations/complaints relating to stocktakes
  • Support actions related to inventory holdings as appropriate
  • First line of approval for invoices relating to stocktakes
Inventory Reporting and Investigations:
  • Running and compiling weekly reports for intercompany orders and transfer orders
  • Investigating, escalating, and assisting to resolve any processing or systemic issues with intercompany and transfer orders
  • Running and compiling the goods in transit report
  • Monitoring IRNG/GRNI control ledger, investigating discrepancies between supplier invoices and physical receipts
Inventory Accounting:
  • Calculation and posting of purchase price variance journals in the financial ledgers
  • Prepare and post periodic goods in transit accrual journals and registered invoice accruals journals
  • Prepare and post periodic stock loss provisions
  • Prepare and post periodic product distribution and packaging costs
  • Prepare and post carriage and duty reconciliation
  • Calculate periodic transfer pricing and post journals
  • Monitor and investigate any variances in estimated cost prices and cost breakdown elements of on hand stock
  • Preparation of EU & International stock reconciliation
  • Running and monitoring the Stock Close procedure in AX every period end
  • Provide variance analysis on gross profit adjustments and stock balance sheet accounts.
  • Ad Hoc analysis
  • Assisting auditors by providing explanation and documentation on stock related inquiries

TOOLS OF THE TRADE
  • Part-qualified accountant

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel
  • Desirable: AX proficient, experience in inventory accounting
