About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council’s ICT & Digital service is a busy, vibrant and innovative service responsible for delivering key enabling and transformational services for the wider organisation, city and external partners.

As a Coventry City Council desktop engineer, you will be part of the End User Device team, supporting over 5500 corporate users across a range of business applications, and a range of hardware; Laptops, mobiles, tablets, AV kit, MFDs etc. We also provide support and services a significant number of schools, Adult Education sites and public libraries; as well as ad hoc events such as the Godiva festival and elections.

What is the job role?

As a IT apprentice in the End User Device team, you will be working with a team of experienced and skilled desktop analysts in a multi-site environment, supporting corporate council staff, schools, adult education, libraries, and extended learning centres.

Your tasks will cover a wide range of IT functions, where you will assist and undertake imaging, installing, and configuring computers, mobile and tablet devices, equipment rollouts, diagnosing and repairing hardware and software faults, supporting meeting room equipment, printers, software installation & deployment, fulfilling requests and resolving technical issues remotely or in person on a site visit.

You will work in a demanding ITIL service environment, ensuring completion of work to agreed quality and timescales.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

This apprenticeship role is a fixed term contract for 21 months in line with the length of the apprenticeship training.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a motivated, passionate, and committed apprentice to work in our End User Device team, who will assist in providing support and on-going maintenance of the Coventry City Council estate, our education and library services, through to ad-hoc events such as the Godiva Festival. You will be working alongside other IT and business teams to ensure all assets, access, security, projects, and changes are consistently managed in line with Council policies.

Prior experience is not required but general IT knowledge would be beneficial; most importantly you must have an interest in IT, have a desire to learn, and be a good written communicator, as well as verbally and face to face. The End User Device team are customer facing, so you should have an understanding of good customer service, be polite, and have the ability to work well within a team.
