Job Introduction

From the World Cups to the Olympics, whether it’s Premier League football, the FA Cups, Wimbledon or International Cricket, BBC Sport is at the heart of the world’s major sporting events. Our teams help make sure that every day, throughout the year our audiences are served with the sporting stories that matter as well as providing world class coverage of the events themselves. The unrivalled reach of our services, our extensive cross-platform offer and the strength of our brand & reputation are what distinguishes BBC Sport from the chasing pack.

We are looking to recruit a Junior Production Manager for BBC Sport productions working across our Football output.

We would welcome applications from experienced Production Co-ordinators looking to take the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will work closely with other Production Managers, Unit Managers and Heads of Productions to deliver the broad range of content using specialist production management skills, knowledge and experience.

The ideal candidate will work in partnership with editorial colleagues to deliver outstanding, distinctive, multi-platform content by providing the ways to realise editorial ambitions within operational and financial constraints.

The JPM will bring effective leadership to the rest of the production management staff on the production and play a key role in managing the teams’ schedule and maintaining a professional pan-BBC production management community.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the production on a day to day basis as part of a team ensuring delivery of accurate budgets and production planning in a demanding and changing environment.

The role requires effective project management skills and proven experience of end to end projects delivery, with a record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments.

Experience of working to and monitoring budgets and knowledge of BBC finance systems is highly desirable. Demonstrable evidence of managing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders is essential, including senior editorial colleagues.

The role is currently a hybrid role whereby office days are 2 or 3 days a week in Salford but could be more depending on the stage of the production cycle and operational demands.

As a key part of the production senior team, you will be able to manage interpersonal relationships effectively and work collaboratively within a diverse team. You will demonstrate communication skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective relations with a wide range of contacts, and demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills to manage conflicting demands to meet tight deadlines.

Are you the right candidate?

  • We’re looking for a talented individual who has considerable knowledge and experience of live studio programmes and sending teams on location. An interest and understanding of the variety of content produced across our sport department, particularly from our Football unit, will be of benefit.
  • You will have demonstrable working knowledge of end-to-end production, with a level of technical understanding to enable the most efficient production of content.
  • You will be able to demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills and the ability to manage conflicting demands to meet deadlines.
  • You will have demonstrable business and finance skills with the ability to actualise, forecast and manage significant production resource and budgets.
  • You will be able to interpret an editorial brief and suggest ideas for maximising the value from productions.

About the BBC

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours here.

Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
