Lead Category & Consumer Data Scientist

Quest Search & Selection are currently partnering with a leading tech eCommerce platform specialised in consumer goods and food delivery. This business offers an extensive range of products including household essentials, medication, office supplies, groceries, and even fresh prepared food!

This Lead Category & Consumer Data Scientist involves developing insights across all aspects of commercial performance, such as creating range assortments tailored to local customer needs, identifying new and high-performing products, managing pricing and promotions.

Key responsibilities of this Lead Category & Consumer Data Scientist -

• Develop innovative measurement and analytical approaches to enhance understanding of performance and customers, integrating these insights into the Category team's daily decision-making processes.
• Support business's rapid growth by analysing extensive datasets to uncover insights that drive improvements in category performance
• Address complex business questions through detailed quantitative analysis and experimentation, providing meaningful and actionable insights.
• Serve as the primary UK liaison for central Analytics & Data Engineering teams
• Create models and tools to inform pricing strategies, aiding Category Managers in maintaining a competitive edge while maximising margin opportunities.
• Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making by coaching and supporting teams to enhance their data literacy and confidence.
• Mentor and support other analysts in the team, helping them develop their skills and achieve excellent results.

Key requirements of Lead Category & Consumer Data Scientist:

• Ideally having 5 years of experience in analytics or data science, preferably in grocery, trading, or consumer products.
• Strong understanding of statistical analysis and experiment design.
• Experience in a tech or eCommerce background is desirable
• Ideally a bachelor's degree or similar in, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline is advantageous.
• Expert proficiency in SQL and databases, with the ability to write structured and efficient queries on large data sets.
• Experience with Python or R, or GitHub is a plus.
• Development experience with BI platforms such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Strong and confident communication skills, with expertise in data visualisation and storytelling.
