An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic compassionate leader to join the Primary and Community Care team as the Lead Nurse for Education and Training.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and continuously improving the skills and knowledge of nurses and health care support workers engaged in delivering health services within Primary and Community Care, ensuring safe, clinically effective, high-quality care is delivered to patients by competent professionals.
The Lead Nurse will be responsible to support the Senior Nurse in identifying the training needs and to contribute to the design, commissioning, and implementation of robust continuous professional development programmes for Education and Training to meet the requirements of the service and the needs of the patients.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Senior Nurse for Education and Training, Heads of Nursing, Divisional Education Leads, Multi professional Primary and Community Care Education Lead, Higher Education Establishments/Universities and Health Education and Improvement Wales.
On appointment, the Lead Nurse will support the Aneurin Bevan Care Academy programme and lead on the Journey Of Excellence programme, as well as coordinating the annual training needs analysis to reflect the Divisional nursing and service priorities.
• To lead on the integrated Registered and Un-registered workforce education agenda- ensuring cognisant of both current and future nursing lead requirements
• To have professional responsibility for the coordination and implementation of the educational strategy and framework for delivery for community nursing services, practice nursing and independent sector nursing and un-registered staff
• To provide expert and specialist advice and direction on all aspects of Nurse Education and contributing to corporate decision making at a strategic and operational level using a high level of influencing and negotiation skills.
• Teach on clinical foundation courses and other professional development courses
• Responsibility to work with the Divisional Nurse to develop an education strategy for non NHS nurses and carers including practice nurses, HCSW’s and independent sector nurses and carers. This will require the post holder to work closely with national bodies such as Care Forum Wales, Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and Welsh Government to ensure strategies are aligned to the All Wales agenda.
• Lead on the advancement of hospital avoidance in residential settings by supporting the upskilling of the un-registered workforce, integrating support from district nurses and with a responsibility to maintain close links with Local Authorities and Regulators

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management, leadership and strategic development of the Education and Training programmes across the Primary Care and Community Division, guided by general health, organisational and broad occupational policies establishing and providing advice to the organisation on how these should be interpreted.
To provide professional and managerial support to ensure the provision of healthcare to the Health Board’s population, managing, developing and directing the nursing and clinical workforce within the team and ensuring safe, clinically effective, high-quality care is delivered to patients by competent professionals; This will include developing continuous professional development programmes for Primary and Community Nursing across the ABUHB geographical area.
The post holder will lead on specific projects as directed by the Senior Nurse for Education and Training to include Education and professional development whilst providing operational and strategic support across a range of issues.
This role will be at the centre of developing the nursing team as part of the integrated services in line with the ABUHB strategic direction. The post holder will deputise for the Senior Nurse for Education and Training as appropriate.
