Job description

Working 37.5 hours a week alongside the multidisciplinary team, you be responsible for assessing the social care need of patients in secure care from a forensic perspective and be a principle provider of a quality Social Work Service to address those needs as outlined in patient care plans.

Our Lead Social Worker role involves:

  • Undertake a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s social care needs with supervision
  • To ensure an accurate holistic and up to date social history is available for each patient, which offers formulations and recommendations
  • When it is part of an agreed care plan focused casework with individual patients using a range of interventions
  • With the patient’s permission initiate visit and maintain contact with patients families, carers and/or significant others offering support, information and where relevant to the care plan joint family and patient sessions which are enabling
  • Promoting anti-discriminatory practice in a way that links the patient individual circumstances to the broader, social, political legal and cultural context (with relevance to care plan)
  • To liaise with Social Services Departments to ensure that reports and attendance by a representative are available for Mental Health Reviews Tribunals
  • Where necessary, prepare reports and attend hearings in collaboration with Social Services Departments
  • To act as Appropriate Adult under Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984
  • To practice within the Vulnerable Adults Policy. 2.9 

To be successful as a Lead Social Worker you’ll need:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including negotiating, mediation, and presentation skills
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • Demonstrate ability to assess and manage a patient caseload
  • Demonstrates depth of knowledge of the mental health field and legislative framework related to Mental Health Act 1983, Children Act 1989 and Criminal Justice System
  • Good knowledge of social work theory and practice shows an understanding of the relationship between mental disorder and risk
  • Verbal and written communication skills which can adapt to differing needs
  • Can demonstrate effective planning and time management
  • Able to present social work competently and confidently within the Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Works to an explicit anti-discriminatory value base

 


Arbury Court provides care and treatment for women in differing levels of security, enabling clear care pathways and a positive patient experience.  We provide low, medium and Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU) for women over the age of 18, with personality disorders and mental illness. Our service comprises the following wards:- *27 medium secure beds (Delamere and Oakmere wards);*44 low secure beds (Alderley, Daresbury and Hartford wards);*11 PICU beds (Primrose Ward).
