Lead Solutions Architect

Location: Hybrid - Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield or Blackpool
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK's biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.
Working with DWP, you will be helping us to drive our priorities to:

- Deliver outstanding services to our customers and claimants
- Deliver efficiently: transform the way we deliver our services to reduce costs and increase productivity
As a Lead Solutions Architect your main responsibilities would be:
- Leading, delivering and supporting the technical and architecture design for an IT product or service.
- Working collaboratively with engineers, to create VFM solution designs that meet user needs, typically in multi-disciplinary agile teams.
- Creating solution options and recommendations during project discovery and inception phases, to drive decision making on best solution design.
- Creating high-level solution architecture documentation and architecture design artefacts for governance, including all relevant SME input.
- Ensuring technical quality and adherence of Product designs to the Digital Blueprint, Enterprise Architecture and Product Roadmaps.
- Engaging with Enterprise, Domain and Security Architects to implement solutions according to agreed and approved designs.
- Advocating and supporting delivery of solutions that reduce architecture complexity and reduce technical debt.
- Identifying, capturing, iterating, and implementing architecture patterns.
- Sharing best practice and reference architectures.
- Mentoring and coaching a small team of Senior Solution Architects.
You'll have relevant experience in:
- Able to mediate and mend relationships, communicating with stakeholders at all levels.
- Anticipates and exploits opportunities through the recognition of new digital technologies to enhance capability in alignment with business goals.
- Designs systems characterised by high levels of risk, impact and business or technical complexity. Controls system design practice within an enterprise or industry architecture. Influences industry based models for the development of new technology applications. Develops effective implementation and procurement strategies, consistent with business needs. Ensures adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices
- Able to influence, challenge and coach. Able to anticipate how constraints might change and knows where to challenge or remove constraints.
- Designs technical solutions by dealing with problems that span the enterprise at all organisational subject areas.
- Experienced in using a variety of methods of prototyping. Shares best practice and can coach others. Looks at strategic service design end to end. Can create and validate a dynamic prototype.
