Classroom Support is thrilled to be working with an incredible school in Heybridge, Maldon CM9. The school is a fantastic institution, tailored to support young pupils who are at risk of permanent exclusion or have been permanently excluded. The school strives to meet the emotional and social needs of these students and help them either make their way back into mainstream education or support them in obtaining the life skills needed to succeed beyond school life.
The school is currently looking for an inspiring and confident Learning Mentor who has the skills, personality and experience needed to support students from incredibly challenging backgrounds.
An ideal Learning Mentor will be confident, positive, and empathetic. The students at this school come from various challenging backgrounds, including a large majority of students from underprivileged homes. Pupils join the school having been excluded or close to exclusion from a mainstream school. These young people find their way into this school at the most vulnerable time of their lives and need positive mentors/influences in their life.
Your role as Learning Mentor will be to support pupils by listening to their problems, frustrations, and anxieties. You will join them in the classroom and provide them with academic, social and emotional support so that they can remain happy and engaged in the classroom.
You will need to be strong on behaviour management and be mentally prepared to encounter new students with differing challenges on a frequent basis.
For this role the work hours will be 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday (term-time only).
Pay is highly competitive at £425-450 per week.
This role will be to start in January 2024.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Supporting children in the classroom, particularly in a 1:1 setting where a relationship of trust can be built. Listen to their frustrations, fears and anxieties with empathy and positivity.
- Carrying out delegated tasks by classroom teachers in a positive manner.
- Using effective behaviour management techniques, ensuring to consistently follow the school’s behaviour policy.
- Promoting the school’s culture and ethos.
Candidate Requirements:
- Must have experience of working within a school in the past 2 years.
- Must have experience of supporting students with challenging behaviour but be of a calm but firm nature.
- Minimum requirement of holding a level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Must have or be willing to pay for an enhanced DBS (£52.20) on the update service (£13 a year).
- Advantageous holding of a Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Advantageous to have previous experience as a support worker or in the care sector.
