About The Role

To deliver its sustainable top 30 ambition Swansea University needs a workforce with the differentiated skills necessary to ensure that it can deliver excellence in research, teaching, learning, and the wider student experience, and to be a powerhouse for the regional economy and internationally.

The Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences currently consists of 22 academic staff working in a multidisciplinary environment, enabling excellence in teaching and internationally leading research. We are currently experiencing a period of growth, with an emphasis on our postgraduate programmes. In 2025 we will be launching a taught MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology.

As part of this ambitious growth plan, the Department is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/SeniorLecturer in Clinical Exercise Physiology who will make outstanding contributions to research, education, and administration. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and establishing the new MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology, whilst also contributing to our BASES-accredited undergraduate programme in Sport and Exercise Sciences.

We welcome applications from individuals who can evidence expertise in the development and maintenance of physical health and wellbeing through physical activity and exercise training across the lifespan, particularly in Clinical populations. We invite applications from individuals who can demonstrate a strong theoretical knowledge base and practical experience working with clinical cohorts, both performing appropriate clinical evaluations and prescribing appropriate evidence-based interventions. Experience in health care assessment, particularly cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CEPT), and experience working with at least one of the following broad conditions would be desirable: cancer, cardiovascular, frailty, renal, mental health, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory. We particularly welcome applications from those with experience in cardiovascular conditions, neurological conditions, or cancer.

The successful candidate will join a thriving community of academics within the Exercise Medicine and Health Research Group, with access to excellent facilities to support research and teaching.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
