Here at NTU we're proud to offer placement opportunities to our students and are looking to recruit a Legal Assistant (placement student) to work in NLS Legal, our multi award winning teaching law firm.
The key responsibilities for this role will include:
- To assist and support NLS Legal staff with the firm’s activity as required;
- To undertake legal casework and pro bono activities supervised through NLS Legal;
- To assist and support the administration of the firm by undertaking administrative tasks as required.

NLS Legal is Nottingham Law School’s multi award winning teaching law firm which provides a not-for-profit service to individuals, businesses, organisations and community groups over a number of areas of advice, representation, and outreach activity. NLS Legal has achieved financial awards for their clients totalling over £6 million and creates outstanding opportunities for hundreds of students every academic year.
NLS Legal is looking to recruit a current Nottingham Law School LLB student to work as a Legal Assistant on a fixed term placement. The successful candidate will spend a minimum of 10 months working directly with qualified and experienced lawyers in the firm and, under supervision, provide support to NLS Legal clients including, with appropriate training, the opportunity to represent clients before the Tribunal. The post holder will also provide pivotal support to the administrative team, assisting with new enquiries, student recruitment, marketing and social media, and general administrative tasks related to the running of a regulated law firm. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will also provide supervision support to student teams working in the firm, and, with appropriate supervision, run their own caseload.
NLS Legal undertakes work in a variety of areas including business law, civil litigation, intellectual property, employment, welfare rights, housing, special education needs and disability, family and criminal law. Candidates should be prepared to work in any area of law, although it is anticipated that the successful candidate will get a broad range of experience during their time in the firm.
