Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your engineering and management expertise in a modern cutting-edge field. You will report to the Engineering Portfolio Manager, with regular progress updates to the project General Manager and will work alongside highly motivated and experienced teammates.

The Class 730 fleet of 3 and 5 cars are brand new trains which entered into service in late 2023. Your role will be to lead a team of four Engineers to provide direct support to the maintenance teams, as well as working on methods to improve any issues identified during service running and lead workstreams to ensure the fleet is as reliable as possible. The 3 car fleet will be maintained from Soho dept, where you and the team will be based, the 5 car fleet will be maintained from Bletchley depot, where some direct support from the team may be required at times.

This is an excellent time to join the project and take over the leadership of the Engineering team. The 3 car fleet is not yet fully in service and will come operational in the West Midlands area during the summer of 2024. The 5 car fleet will commence running on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) during 2024 between Euston and Liverpool.

Soho depot has recently had improvement works to facilitate the maintenance of the new fleet, and Bletchley depot is being reworked and extended to accommodate the 5 car fleet. The team is in place, the operation is running, we now need a new leader to join us and take the team forward as service ramps up to 80 trains in service each day by the end of 2024.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the team lead investigations into any potential product safety issues identified in service.
  • Ensuring the team lead on driving reliability to the highest achievable levels by identifying failure modes and developing solutions.
  • Ensuring the team provide direct support to maintenance teams, driving improvements in manuals and process to ensure work is completed correctly in the most efficient manner.
  • Manging the workload of your team, and the delivery of workstreams to the project.

All about you

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career.

You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges and a long-term career free from boring daily routines
  • Work with industry leading brand-new electric rolling stock which is set to revolutionise travel on Birmingham’s Cross-City line.
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!

What we offer

We offer a highly competitive remuneration package, including a performance related bonus, 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with the opportunity to buy or sell holiday.
