The role:
The Maintenance Engineering Manager role will be a very dynamic and exciting opportunity for someone to sink their teeth into. You will be responsible for leading the maintenance team and will play a pivotal role in establishing an in-house maintenance function from the ground-up, so must be comfortable rolling your sleeves up and leading from the front at points.
You will have ideally had a proven track record in plant maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and control equipment in high-volume, fast-paced, and heavily automated environments.
The key responsibilities for the Maintenance Engineering Manager will involve:
- Leading and overseeing all aspects of plant maintenance, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical, and control systems to ensure optimal equipment performance and reliability.
- Developing and implementing maintenance strategies, plans, and schedules to minimize downtime, reduce costs, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance processes, procedures, and systems, by leveraging best practices and innovative technologies to optimise asset performance and reliability.
- Managing maintenance projects, including upgrades, installations, and modifications, ensuring timely completion within budget and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Recruiting, coaching and developing a team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track maintenance performance, analyse trends, and identify areas for improvement, working closely with the Head of Operations and senior management.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with operations, quality, external contractors and other departments to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of maintenance activities with production schedules and business objectives.
- Driving a strong safety culture within the maintenance team, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures to minimise risks and promote a safe working environment.
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Engineering.
- Extensive Maintenance/Engineering management experience within highly regulated sectors - FMCG, Food Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, etc.
- Proven experience in plant maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and control systems within high-volume, fast-paced, and heavily automated operational environments.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and lead a team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage resources, and deliver results within tight deadlines and budget constraints.
- Proficiency in computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
