WHAT TO EXPECT

The MAC Technician role is required to provide technical assistance to the EPMC, primarily Machining Operations for a 12 month fixed term duration.

Main activities will be conducting metallurgical analysis on crankshaft, cylinder block and cylinder head materials to confirm drawing specifications are met; as well as performing cleanliness testing and analysing contaminants from this and other test points in the EPMC.

As the EPMC matures, the MAC Technician role may also conduct scheduled spot-audit testing on supplied pats. On completion of testing, the role will complete test reports as required and feedback results to customers, escalating issues as necessary, and interrogating SPC data to identify trends.

Key Responsibilities

• Use metallurgical prep and test equipment to assess any component according to standard test processes, as required by Engineering specification or drawing; or to provide assistance to diagnosis a failure or non-conformance
• Quality Control testing for Machining Operations (Cleanliness and Hardness testing)
• Write test reports and communicate clearly with customers throughout the business
• Create test plans based on ISO standards, which can be executed by others in the team
• Routinely review data and maintain statistical reports, to understand capability and ensure variance is understood and controlled
• Assist the investigation of product quality issues with cross functional teams
• Ensure internal and external audit compliance to standards including IATF 16949 and ISO 14001
• Compliance to Health and Safety procedures by ensuring all safety metrics are achieved, including identifying safety hazards and risks and assisting implementation of corrective action
• Apply lean manufacturing principles and seek ongoing opportunities for process improvement, engage with and assist compliance with business systems
• Document and maintain site specific working practices such as Work Element Sheet (WES), Standard Work Confirmation, 5s, Risk Assessments etc

WHAT TO EXPECT

Essential:

• Previous experience incorporating knowledge and practical operation of materials testing equipment (hardness, tensile, composition, cleanliness, FTIR, OES)
• Metallurgical knowledge of steel and aluminium, including heat treatment, and experience in applying this know-how
• Able to interpret Engineering drawings, specifications and metallic microstructures
• Understanding or familiarity with automotive systems, practices and procedures
• Working knowledge of laboratory safety practices, able to act on potential concerns
• Use of investigative techniques (Quality tools) to identify and solve problems
• Computer skills – experienced using Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as SPC software such as Minitab, including for data manipulation and interrogation
• A willingness and capability to communicate information to all levels, including writing reports
• Relevant indentured or advanced modern apprenticeship

Desirable:

• Working knowledge of ISO 17025, familiarity with IATF or ISO/TS16949, confident in principles of standardisation, traceability and Quality Management as applied to a laboratory
• Experience of working to tight deadlines in a high-volume production environment
• Experience of Environmental controls and practices
