The Role
Based in the School of Medicine, you will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic doctor who will contribute to the delivery of teaching for MBBS and other undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including clinical skills teaching and clinical reasoning.
You will be involved in the delivery of our MBBS curriculum to years 1 and 2 medical students.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to education research projects and to the development of new sessions.
You will also be offered the opportunity to undertake the Certificate in Clinical Education.
You are expected to have an MBBS degree with relevant clinical practice experience and to have completed your Foundation training by August 2024.
This post is offered on a fixed term contract from 07 August 2024 until 05 August 2025 or 04 August 2026.

Key Accountabilities
To deliver teaching for MBBS and other undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including clinical skills teaching and clinical reasoning.
Responsible to the Head of School, you will:
  • Make a significant contribution to the School’s delivery of undergraduate clinical skills teaching, learning and assessment
  • Engage in medical education research under supervision from senior colleagues
  • Deliver programmes of clinical skills teaching in the MBBS programme and other degree courses so that undergraduate medical and other students can carry out selected clinical procedures professionally and effectively. This includes giving lectures and leading teaching demonstrations in the Clinical Skills Laboratory
  • Conduct assessment of clinical skills subject to their approval by the appropriate Board of Examiners in the medical course; this includes both written and practical (OSCE) examination
  • Undertake peer observation of teaching as a development exercise with colleagues
  • Contribute to faculty development as a means to develop your teaching skills
  • Contribute to other areas of teaching as appropriate and requested by the Head of school
  • Undertake other academic and administrative duties as seen necessary by the Head of School including student admissions, recruitment, appraisal, mentoring and assessment
The Person
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of clinical skills in current medical practice
  • Experience of teaching to MBBS or other students
  • Experience of teaching in a hospital or general practice
  • Interest in the development of pedagogy and improving quality in this area
