You will be working between Gloucester and Cheltenham Royal Hospitals
JOB PURPOSE:
To provide diagnostic and repair services to mechanical building services, plant and equipment, principally heating, plumbing, air conditioning, ventilation and steam installations and also to a lesser extent electrical plant and equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
To have a relevant certification in mechanical or Plumbing & Heating NVQ L2 or L3 qualification or City & Guilds or Diploma in mechanical discipline
3 -5 years experience in maintenance works.
To be fully conversant with all aspects of mechanical skills
To have an analytical fault-finding ability.
To have excellent communication skills.
To have basic IT skills.
To be able to work alone and as part of a team.
To have a customer focused approach to work.
Work with apprentice and maintenance assistants to impact knowledge
To hold a full current driving licence.
Key Result Areas
- To diagnose and repair mechanical faults with domestic and industrial plant and equipment.
- To have a secondary understanding of safe electrical isolation and understanding.
- To organise resources, materials and transportation to complete a job.
- Completion of all paperwork associated with all tasks.
- Ability to work with hand held devices such as PDA
- Liaise with ward/department Managers to arrange access for all building repair and maintenance
- Occasional exposure to highly unpleasant working conditions i.e., sluices, infected areas, blocked drainage deep cleans, and barrier cleans
- To work towards the Trust s procedure for Quality Control.
- Be willing to attend additional competency training (CP) suitable for hospital maintenance.
- Work alongside other trades and contractors.
- Carry out routine duties and preventative maintenance as directed.
- To monitor planned preventative maintenance schedules.
- Based primarily at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but willing to help across the trust.
- To be contactable at all times during the shift.
- To participate in the out of hours on-call provision and shift rota.
- To work unsocial hours as required, and return to work as and when necessary.
- Required to follow Trust & GMS Procedures and participate in audits from internal and external sources.
- Any other duties within the GMS function which may be required by the Estates Maintenance Manager within the scope of the individual s competence or as laid down in agreements between the Department of Health and Social Security and Trade Unions
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONTIONS
- Adhere to health and safety in regards to PPE and suitable workwear.
- Regularly lifting and carrying loads up to 25Kgs.
- Occasionally lifting and manoeuvring loads over 25Kgs using appropriate lifting equipment.
- Occasionally working in uncomfortable conditions such as heat and confined spaces.
- Potentially encountering bodily fluids, bio hazards and occasionally sharps.

- To ensure that all work is undertaken promptly, efficiently and to the highest standards while maintaining a customer focused approach and to carry out that work with the minimum of disruption and with consideration for patients, staff, members of the public and colleagues.
