The General Dental Council (GDC) is looking for an experienced PR professional to play a key role in the delivery of our communications and engagement strategy. This is an exciting opportunity that offers the chance to make a real impact in maintaining public confidence in dental services.
As the UK regulator for dental professionals, it is vital that the GDC’s work in protecting and promoting the safety of dental patients is communicated clearly to key audiences, including patients, dental professionals, and partners. As Media Manager, you will help achieve this by leading an efficient and effective media and Social Media function, developing suitable strategies and content and managing media relationships that align with our corporate priorities and engagement objectives.
The role
This is a key role with a range of responsibilities, including:
- Promoting messaging in line with our priorities, ensuring an integrated approach to communications and engagement.
- Developing media and Social Media opportunities to reach external stakeholders.
- Leading the GDC’s responses to media enquiries, planning and preparing our response to any emerging issues or enquiries.
- Developing and leading media and Social Media strategies to deliver the corporate and engagement objectives.
- Proactively planning media engagement, working with colleagues to ensure an integrated approach to communications and engagement delivery.
- Building and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including journalists.
- Managing and participating in the out of hours media enquiry service.
- Monitoring and evaluating the GDC’s media engagement, evaluating activities, identifying trends, and responding to issues where appropriate.
- Drafting content for various channels and audiences, including press releases, position statements, comments, and lines to take.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Expertise in media handling, proactive PR, and Social Media management.
- The ability to provide direction and advice based on professional expertise, whilst working to strict deadlines.
- Excellent news judgement.
- Experience of developing and delivering media and Social Media strategies.
- The ability to identify and manage risks with a solution-focused approach.
- The ability to quickly build effective relationships with and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders, whilst working as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to articulate with credibility and conviction.
- The ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, escalating and involving the wider team for support.
