Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to become our National Projects Manager.

This role sits in the Programmes Department, which has responsibility for managing major programmes and projects of organisationally significant areas of work. Programmes sit in Business Improvement Group – a dynamic part of Historic England that ensures HE is an adaptable, fundable and sustainable organisation that delivers for heritage by facilitating joined up working, inspiring, challenging and equipping people, nurturing innovation and productivity, managing grant spend and growing income.

You will give expert advice and support projects and initiatives from across Historic England. You will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination, management and delivery of a range of projects including high-profile externally facing projects. You will work with colleagues from a wide range of departments across Historic England from architects and surveyors to marketing specialists and analysts.

We are looking for someone who will be passionate about the value that project management principles can bring to a project and act as an ambassador for the promotion of an innovative and corporate principles-led approach to project management.

The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth and Cambridge. 

Salary

National salary range: £36,603 pro-rata

Greater London + salary range: £39,408 pro-rata

Inner London salary range: £40,748 pro-rata

What you will be doing

Managing the planning, delivery and close of projects being led by various Groups and project teams across Historic England including, but not exclusive to, large externally facing projects, continuous and business improvement, organisation development and capacity building projects;

Working with the Head of Major Projects to develop and implement other projects and programmes within the team’s remit, being entrepreneurial and agile, able and willing to help respond to new work requests;

Developing effective working relationships with colleagues across Historic England to ensure the effective co-ordination of projects;

Using appropriate project and programme documents, tools and controls to successfully plan, and deliver a range of projects (including but not exclusive to business case development, project initiation and design, progress monitoring and reporting, risk and issue management, stakeholder management and communication plans, change controls and assurance plans, budget and resource management);

Working with the Public Engagement, Policy and Evidence and Corporate Services Groups and local teams in Regional Delivery to ensure projects are effectively communicated both internally and externally;

Taking an active role in Project Boards and Working Groups, suggesting innovative approaches and solutions and supporting the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) by taking delegated responsibility for the delivery and reporting of project progress, targets, milestones and actions;

Undertaking ongoing evaluation of projects including post-project analysis and identification of lessons learned, making recommendations to the Head of Major Projects, Head of Programmes, SRO and Director of Strategy and Business Development where appropriate;

Providing colleagues across Historic England with support in managing their projects, acting as a mentor to other project managers and helping to provide inventive solutions to problems that arise and acting as  an ambassador to the corporate, principle-led approach to project management;

Be an advocate for Historic England and work collaboratively across the organisation to maximise our effectiveness;

Undertaking any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and competencies required of the post requested by line management.
