Gannet Alpha is an Oil & Gas production platform in the Central North Sea operating multiple subsea tiebacks as well as platform wells. Gannet Alpha contributes significant value to the Shell UK business and is strategically important for the ongoing success of the company in the Central North Sea.

The successful candidate will have experience in the Operations/Production and Maintenance Technician role specifically with a trade in either Mechanical, Electrical or Instrument.

What’s the role?

You will be working in a challenging environment with a requirement to be flexible to meet the operational demands of the installation. As challenging as it can be, you will be joining a highly capable and motivated team and meeting the challenges given can be hugely rewarding.

The O&M Technician role drives greater ownership and execution of maintenance delivered by Shell staff by developing flexible technicians who have the skillset to work effectively in either the operations or maintenance teams.

  • Once integrated into the team, you would be expected to work in the maintenance and production teams looking after all operational and technical aspects of the process plant and equipment onboard.
  • The O&M technician must also demonstrate a high degree of system/equipment knowledge and diagnostic ability, together with a mature and authoritative nature.
  • Execute maintenance activities alongside Shell and contract technicians in line with the Corrective and Preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Create and apply isolations to equipment using the Permit to Work management system (P-Vision).
  • Carry out duties under the permit to work system both as permit requestor (responsible for the raising/creation of permits) and permit holder (responsible person carrying out work under a permit)
  • Strong fault finding and diagnosis skills often in challenging situations.
  • Support Turnaround/ Pitstop preparation and execution.
  • Carry out duties as part of the platform’s emergency response team. Training will be provided where required.

Position is based offshore in the central North Sea on 2 weeks offshore and 3 weeks onshore field break rota.

What we need from you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Significant years within the Oil & Gas Offshore or Petrochemical industry (or equivalent) with a suitable technical qualification, HNC/D, NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Experience of maintenance in both safety critical and production critical systems and equipment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Good understanding of the end-to-end maintenance processes with the ability to apply this effectively, utilising SAP (Shell’s maintenance management system) and P-Vision (Shell’s Safe System of Work tool)
  • Ability to read and interpret Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID’s), equipment drawings and vendor documentation.
