We've seen a large amount of investment and development work taking place at our Port Of Kings Lynn, including £2.2m spent on redeveloping one of our terminals and £3.3m on a new crane for the port. We handle over 400,000 tonnes of cargo, with a strong geographic location to handle timber products, construction materials and agribulks.
We're currently looking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager, ideally with knowledge of Port Management to lead our operations teams at the port. You'll be responsible for the management of a team of 23, ensuring the Health & Safety of everybody on Port property, driving continuous improvement and maximising operational performance to our customers.

Key Accountabilities
- Overall accountability for the quality and effective delivery of all port operations; challenge current methods of operational efficiency to improve customer satisfaction and reduce costs. These include all inbound and outbound logistics, onsite transport, loading, unloading and storage of products, cargo and equipment; inbound and outbound vessels, marine management and warehousing.
- Support the Head of Operations and the Head of Commercial WASSP to identify value driven opportunities and create new business strategies.
- Maximise operational performance for Port infrastructure and assets ensuring the highest level of service is delivered for all customers, tenants, internal departments, external sub-contractors and statutory bodies.
- Drive an effective communication strategy that supports ABP objectives and values. Listen, support, engage and encourage employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results. Build a strong, engaged team.
- Forge strong alliances with the WASSP management leadership team, collaborate with own peer group and other key internal stakeholders across the regions to provide vison and direction for the business.
- Establish goals, set priorities and critically analyse operational performance to ensure the port meets or exceeds business objectives.
- Together with the Head of Operations overall Budget responsibility for all port operations, to include cost control, reporting, pricing, adherence to internal and external financial guidelines, agreeing targets and cost-out measures, etc.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in an operational management role.
- Ability to deliver the ethos of exceptional customer service and always seeking to improve quality and service for both internal / external stakeholders.
- Leadership qualities to drive the current team forward and develop them within their own areas, combined with previous people and team management skills.
- Demonstrate clear abilities to influence people at all levels, internal and external, through listening and adjusting communication style to meet the needs of the audience.
- Results orientated with good project management and execution skills.
- Strong written and spoken English language skills.
- Previous Health & Safety responsibilities (ideally IOSH or NEBOSH)
- Prepared to undertake Port Facilities Security Officer training as required.
