Mercury Hampton is working on an exclusive retained position with a client that is at the forefront of clean energy technology. With a dedicated Research and Development (R&D) team focused on 100% hydrogen powertrains, they are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to lead their Operations Team.
Role Overview:
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in managing key functions such as Procurement, Facilities Management, Health and Safety, Quality, and Human Resources. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of a growing organization in the clean energy sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Managing Director, providing regular updates on all operational business-critical issues.
- Supervise the procurement team to ensure timely and cost-effective material purchases for production and R&D teams.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, customers, and senior management.
- Implement new technologies and best practices to continually improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor financial forecasts and budgets, collaborating with the finance function on operational finance matters.
- Oversee company facilities, including lease arrangements, insurance, communications, and IT.
- Take overall responsibility for company health and safety, policies, systems, training, and enforcement.
- Lead and improve the procurement, implementation, and operation of company systems (CRM, MRP, ERP, etc.).
- Supervise Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements for operations and processes.
- Recruit, train, and supervise direct reports, working closely with sub-contracted HR and IT personnel.
- Support the Quality Manager in maintaining and improving overall quality processes (ISO90001) and implementing ISO140001.
- Contribute to strategic planning as part of the management team.
- Proficiency in using software for business processes, budget tracking, project data, inventory, health and safety, and human resources management.
- Ability to understand high-level concepts related to the core product portfolio and R&D.
- Collect, enter, and disseminate operational data, track business functions, and assist with risk analysis and mitigation.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills for team management, stakeholder collaboration, and written communication.
- Deadline management, production milestone monitoring, and ensuring project completion within specific deadlines.
- Degree-level education, preferably in engineering, science, project management, or business-related subjects.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial operational or related role, preferably in manufacturing or technical services.
- Right to work in the UK (overseas workers may be considered depending on VISA qualification).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Direct experience with business software programs (CRM, MRP, MS-Excel, MS-Project, or equivalent).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexible working arrangement for splitting time between site and home working.
- Travel to customer sites and other divisions as required.
