Role:
As a packer laborer in the goods-in department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient handling, packing, and processing of incoming goods. Your primary objective is to maintain a smooth flow of goods into the warehouse, ensuring they are properly sorted, packed, and prepared for storage or distribution.
Responsibilities:
- Receive incoming goods, checking them against delivery notes and purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
- Inspect goods for any damages or discrepancies and report any issues to the appropriate department.
- Sort incoming goods based on their type, size, and destination within the warehouse.
- Organize goods in designated storage areas, ensuring efficient use of space and easy accessibility.
- Loading and unloading of deliveries.
- Properly pack goods according to specified packing instructions, taking care to prevent damage during transit or storage.
- Label packages with appropriate information such as product codes, batch numbers, and destination details.
- Maintain accurate records of received goods, including quantities, descriptions, and any relevant documentation.
- Enter data into the inventory management system to update inventory records and track stock movements.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines while handling goods, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep work areas clean and organized to minimize hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other shopfloor staff, including forklift operators, stock controllers, and supervisors, to ensure smooth workflow and timely processing of goods.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks and resolve any issues or challenges that may arise.
- Assist in quality control procedures by identifying any defects or discrepancies in incoming goods and reporting them for further inspection.
- Help maintain high standards of quality and accuracy in all packing and handling processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains within the goods-in department.
- Assist in other labour tasks required on the shopfloor.
- Suggest and implement changes to leadership team to streamline packing, sorting, and handling procedures, where possible.
Skills & qualifications:
- Previous experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment preferred.
- Forklift licence holder is ideal.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Basic computer skills (ERP systems, Microsoft Office) for data entry and inventory management.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £24,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
