- £23.45 per hour PAYE / £31.41 per hour Umbrella
- Hybrid working - the councils corporate policy is 2 days per week in office, remainder at home

The successful candidate will have the following experience:
- Building e-newsletters (mailchimp or similar platform)
- Drupal experience preferable
- Copywriting - ideally internal commms
The Internal Communications Officer is responsible for delivering communications activities to support the council's strategic ambitions and transformation journey.
The role is involved in developing and delivering campaigns and activities that look to inform, educate and engage council staff (many of whom are residents) to positively change behaviours, perceptions and attitudes.
A big part of the role is looking for and implementing new and creative ways to communicate with and listen to staff as the organisation changes.
The role will also support senior officers in building trust, improving workplace culture and raising awareness and understanding of service needs and strategy.
You will also support the Internal Communications manager when needed, providing guidance and support to others across the service.
Key Accountabilities and Result Areas
Providing communications support to services, boards and project groups when needed
This will involve:
- Designing, delivering and evaluating strategic Internal Communications campaigns to meet an agreed set of outcomes and measures
- Creating a high standard of communications content such as newsletter or intranet copy, digital content, intranet / digital signage assets
- Produce Internal Communications and engagement plans and managing the activity within them
- Ensuring SMART evaluation is integrated into all work and monitored to improve delivery
- Provide advice and support to the leadership team delivering change communications
- Developing communications that inform and involve the council's diverse workforce and stakeholders, considering different needs
- Thinking ahead, gathering intelligence on policy and operational developments in services to inform communications plans
- Providing expert advice to senior managers and stakeholders on communications
- Building and maintaining strong, effective relationships with internal officers and staff network groups
To support the delivery of a high-quality communications service for the council
This will involve:
- Ensuring the co-ordination of internal communication activity within the team by keeping colleagues and managers briefed
- Maintain corporate communications channels such as the intranet, internal newsletters and digital screens
- Assist with the delivery and set-up of corporate events, such as online webinars and talks
- Working with peers to identify and develop the most effective channels and high quality content for corporate communications
- Working with colleagues to monitor, research and report on staff perceptions
- Championing the council's transformation agenda in improving and modernising how we work and how we deliver services
- To champion, promote and demonstrate the council's values in all aspects of the role
- To be a positive ambassador for the council and Croydon, maximising our influence and creating opportunities to enhance reputation
- Working with the resilience team in the delivery of crisis communications.
To support the communications and engagement service - managers and officers
This will involve:
- Managing all aspects of a campaign or project to agreed timescales and budget, with regular reporting to stakeholders
- Taking a flexible approach to support the delivery of organisational and team priorities
- Thinking creatively, challenging the norms, inspiring and supporting colleagues, and constructively challenging to ensure improvement.
- Keeping up-to-date on current thinking in communications, sharing this knowledge with peers and applying to activities
- Managing any budget for communications activities to ensure value for money
- Working with wider team to deliver crisis communications as required
