Perm Highways Engineer Routine Maintenance

We are currently working with a local authority to recruit for an Engineer to join a team involved in Routine Maintenance, management and administration of the highway network.

We are currently recruiting for a Highways Engineer to support a team involved in Highway Safety Inspections and Routine Maintenance, management and administration of the highway network.

The successful person will programme and manage annual machine and condition surveys to ensure they are undertaken in a correct, timely and quality manner including the processing of data to produce Road Condition Indicators and support the development of the annual Highway Maintenance Schemes Programme.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within an operational Highways Environment, be well-organised, flexible, and have good communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver the service by supporting the management, administration and implementation of Highway Maintenance project and function work activities.
• To programme Highway Safety Inspections and co-ordinate and manage the general activities of a team of Highway Inspectors and Routine Maintenance Officers in providing reactive and routine highway maintenance operations and services reflective of adopting a risk based approach.
• To deliver on time and within budget Routine Maintenance projects including those identified within the approved annual programme of works resulting from identified highway maintenance needs and operational works priorities.
• To ensure that projects are designed, tendered, evaluated, awarded, implemented and managed in accordance with the Council’s financial and legislative policies and contract standing orders.
• To programme and manage annual machine and condition surveys to ensure they are undertaken in a correct, timely and quality manner including the processing of data to produce Road Condition Indicators and support the development of the annual Highway Maintenance Schemes Programme.
• To manage the highway maintenance hierarchies, including the updating and maintenance of survey networks and inventory records associated with asset management, highway condition and inspection surveys, which supports the development of the annual highway maintenance schemes programme.
• To help defend the council against third party insurance claims by providing evidence and statements to the council’s solicitors and in court as required.
• Support the Senior Engineer in the development and review of Highway Policies including Doncaster Councils Pothole Policy and Highway Inspections Policy and Manual.
