Institute of Materials Physics The Institute of Materials Physics operates instruments on large-scale equipment for structural investigations of materials and works on the development and characterization of novel lightweight materials for high-temperature applications, for example in aircraft turbines and automotive engines. Hereon has a unique infrastructure for complementary materials research with photons and neutrons. Research software engineer (m/w/d) Reference code: _2 - 2024/WP 1 Commencement date: flexible starting date (but no later than June 1st 2024) Work location: Hamburg Application deadline: February 11th, 2024 Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon maintains a permanent outstation at DESY in Hamburg and operates multiple beamlines for diffraction and imaging at the synchrotron radiation source PETRA III. Pydidas ( ) is a software for automated analysis of X-ray diffraction data developed by Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. The aim is to make data analysis more efficient and accessible even to inexperienced users by providing a graphical user interface with adaptable analysis workflows. Pydidas is written in Python and structured very modular to allow an easy integration of new analysis capabilities. In the scope of a HI-ACTS project, we aim to develop a new module for residual stress analysis in Pydidas. The new module will allow for a seamless integration of residual stress analysis in the existing workflow and provide users with a simple-to-use tool to perform their full analysis workflow in Pydidas. Our in-house residual stress experts will support the development with consulting input and requirement definitions. The position is limited to 31.12.2024 with a flexible starting date (but no later than June 1st 2024). Part-time working is possible, as is remote working, but some on site attendance at our DESY outstation in Hamburg will be required. Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy.
