Planner / Senior Planner

Role Overview

We have an opportunity for a RTPI (or soon to be qualified) Planner to join our 20-person strong South East Planning team. Our offices are located in Sevenoaks, Brighton and Guildford. The successful candidate would play an integral role in supporting our planning activities across a wide geography, including in Kent, Surrey and Sussex and would work on a range exciting and high profile projects.
Typically, your role will involve managing your own workload, assisting the senior team fee earners, undertaking planning research and enquiries, drafting reports and planning submissions (site assessments, policy notes, applications, appeals, development plan representations and so on). Assisting with the management of the team’s project instructions and its business development activities.

The nature of our team provides the opportunity to experience and work on a range of projects in both urban and rural environments that encompasses vibrant towns and cities, National Parks and National Landscapes.

Key Responsibilities 

• Prepare planning appraisals of land, buildings and concepts.
• Undertake research and analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of planning applications, including planning statements.
• Write reports, interpreting data and making clear and relevant recommendations.
• Contribute to the preparation/editing of Design & Access Statements and other planning supporting documents. 

Key Skills

• MRTPI, RTPI accredited degree and/or experience gained in existing role at planning consultancy, local authority or developer.
• A proven ability to multi-task, across many projects, helping to progress the team’s workload, managing projects capably – and reporting to directors, associate directors and associates in this team.
• A willingness and enthusiasm as a team player.
• An enjoyment of writing, with excellent language skills and ability to effectively communicate planning arguments.
• Knowledge of the UK town planning and governmental systems.

Team Overview

 The South East Planning Team is a team of 20 planning professionals working from three offices (Sevenoaks, Guildford & Brighton) operating across Kent, Surrey and Sussex as a core patch but also more widely as client requirements demand. The team comprises 4 Directors, 3 Associate Directors, 5 Associates, 1 Senior Planner, 1 Planner and 4 Graduates. A core element of our work is residential both at the delivery stage acting for national housebuilders, but also at the strategic promotional stage acting for land owners, landed estates, promoters and housebuilders. We also undertake significant scale regeneration projects, have long term educational clients and overall a truly diverse work base handling projects from burial grounds all the way through to contemporary glasshouses.
