We are planning for the future growth and prosperity of the borough and are looking to welcome new professionals with the desire to make an impact to best serve the interests of the community.
As an ambitious council, Basingstoke and Deane really focuses on putting our residents at the heart of everything we do. Supporting the delivery of planning projects and strategies, we’re looking to recruit new planners to the council as part of a growing Planning Policy Team.
The role offers the opportunity to start your planning career in a well-resourced, proactive and supportive council where there is a real emphasis on team work. You will gain experience in a high-quality Planning Policy service, getting involved in all aspects of Planning Policy ranging from preparation and implementation of Planning Policy documents to inputting into background studies and providing advice to a wide range of customers.
Given the rural/urban mix of the borough there will be opportunities to work with rural communities to produce neighbourhood plans, alongside gaining knowledge of large scale regeneration and urban extension projects. You will also support the council’s infrastructure, regeneration and delivery functions. We are also currently at an interesting stage of Local Plan making, with opportunities to get involved in the latter stages of the process including consultation and examination over the next two years. The council is taking an ambitious approach to climate change as part of this work.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in planning, have a relevant degree, proven customer service skills and either have or are willing to undertake a post graduate planning qualification, please get in touch. Discussions will take place with the successful candidate to consider the support that the council can offer, including day release and opportunities to apply to the Professional Qualifications scheme.
‘I started at the council as a Graduate Trainee and have gained a huge amount of experience getting involved in a range of projects. I continue to enjoy my time here and have been promoted to an officer level’ Current Policy Officer
