Job Title: Senior Policy and Campaigns Officer

Based at: School Food Matters, The Bridge, 7b Parkshot, London, TW9 2RD
Salary: £35,500 per annum
Working Hours: 5 days per week flexible
Holiday: 31 days including bank holidays that fall on working days
Pension: School Food Matters matches pension contributions at 5% of pensionable earnings

Job Purpose
· To provide research, policy and campaign support to the School Food Matters team
Key Tasks
· Proactively convene groups and develop campaigns that further our mission
· Write briefings, web content, articles, blogs and newsletter content as required
· Keep up to date with relevant research, policy developments and news
· Attend meetings and conferences to influence and inform policy discussions
· With the Press and Communications Officer, jointly line manage the Policy and Communications Assistant
· Support the Chief Executive with research and analysis for various campaigns
· Working with partner organisations, coordinate the activities of the School Food Review
· Undertake investigation, writing and other dissemination activities to support the work of SFM
· Represent SFM at relevant policy consultations and events, and deliver presentations as required
· Draft responses to government consultations
· Provide timely media responses to policy developments
· Ensure that colleagues are fully briefed on policy activities, priorities and messages
· Run internal policy workshops to keep SFM colleagues up to date with the school food sector
· Support SFM’s focus on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
· Keep up to date with safeguarding requirements and reporting procedures
· Maintain the ethos of the charity and positively promote our work at all times
· The Senior Policy and Campaigns Officer will also undertake any other tasks relevant to the affairs of SFM that may arise from time to time. Therefore, being flexible and approaching the job with an open and positive mindset is essential!
Person Specification
Essential
• Experience of research and analysis, ideally in a policy environment
• Knowledge of policy issues relevant to food and health
· Comprehensive understanding of the UK’s political system
• Experience of coordinating policy/research-based projects
· Experience designing, coordinating and delivering campaigns
· Experience of working in coalitions
• Excellent written English, with experience of writing for a range of audiences,
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain relationships with a range of individuals and organisations
• Confident and competent IT skills across Office suite of programmes
Desirable
· Strong knowledge of the public health, food and education policy landscape
· Experience managing others
