Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral Research Associate (Qualitative Research) to join the dynamic Centre for Capacity Research and contribute to a new project to strengthen institutional capacity in research management at LSTM and our global hubs.
The postholder will lead the capacity assessments of research management systems in partner institutions (Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Cameroon). This will entail working with partners to adjust benchmarks to suit their institutional needs and context, qualitative interviews with key stakeholders to understand major challenges and barriers and the development of action plans to address these. They will lead the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities, conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments and will draft reports and manuscripts.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in this exciting new project, reporting to the Deputy Head of the Centre for Capacity Research.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the capacity assessments of research management systems across three partner institutions.
- Lead the monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities, conducting qualitative and quantitative assessments.
- Produce reports, papers and other documentation to communicate research findings to a wider audience.

Qualifications and Knowledge:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Understanding of capacity strengthening and research management systems in Africa and the UK
- Knowledge of all aspects of managing research projects, project planning and monitoring and evaluation
- Familiarity with software for analysing qualitative and quantitative data
